Candle Care
Candle Care Instructions:
FIRE PREVENTION- Place your candle on a flat, flame retardant surface, away from drafts, children, pets, and other flammable objects.
THE FIRST BURN IS MOST IMPORTANT- Upon lighting for the first time, make sure to burn long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the container. The wicks I use will allow a full melt pool within 90-120 minutes or less. If the candle is not allowed to melt to the edge, especially on first burn, a memory ring can form and make the candle tunnel for all future burns. This will drastically decrease your burn time and your fragrance throw for the life of your candle.
KEEP THE WAX CLEAN- Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.
WICK TRIMMING- We can't express the importance of maintaining a short wick to get the most out of your candle. We recommend trimming your wick before every lighting. Keep your wick trimmed to 1/4. Keeping it this length will avoid mushrooming which can result in unnecessary soot. This also controls the size of the flame allowing you to get the most time out of your candle".
HOW TO EXTINGUISH A CANDLE- Extinguish the candle by dipping the wick into the melted wax. Then straighten the wick to prevent smoking and splattering hot wax. After the candle is extinguished, allow the wick to harden and carefully trim to 1/4.
VOCABULARY TO KNOW:
Mushrooming- The carbon buildup on top of the candle wick (both before and while it's burning).
Carbon Build Up- (also known as mushrooming). The ball of carbon build up on a wick.
Tunneling- When a full pool cannot be reached, a “tunnel” is formed. A wax wall will be left around the perimeter of a candle.
Soot- A black powdery or flaky substance consisting largely of amorphous carbon.
